City of Bones - Cassandra Clare Reread 8/13

Ummm...maybe a 3.5...maybe.

While I'm not a big fan of the author for my own reasons, I will admit I was entertained by this story. It was a magical world not that different form others we've read but having derived from Harry Potter, I can see why. Many elements are the same and I could see where they leaked through. However, it didn't bother me as much as I had anticipated it would.

The characters were likable enough. Clary was a little naive and impulsive, acting without really thinking a lot of the time - she was basically a bratty teenager. Jace was the shining moment- the jackass who made me laugh at his bluntness. There were side characters who were interesting enough, however they came across as very one dimensional and only really used when the author needed to further the plot so it was hard to get a good feel on who they actually are.

Final verdict: Entertaining, but not amazing.
